An investigation of lipoic acid and it's [its] derivative as potential ligands for PPARs

This study sought to determine the effects of a-Lipoic Acid (LA) and the prodrug, LA-ester (LA-E1) on a variety of PPAR mediated events including PPAR activity, adipogenesis, gene expression and cellular proliferation. The study also looks at the ability of LA-E1 to improve PPAR activity or efficacy (maximal activation) and modulate the expression of PPAR-regulated target genes.
