Aptamer based ligand for increasing the stability of Gd(III) based MRI contrast agent
Spurred by the endless possibilities of aptamers applications, we decided to investigate the potential for an aptamer based MRI contrast agent. Our research group has previously isolated a 44-base long aptamer that binds to Gd3+ ion. The selective binding and Kd values have been determined via fluorometric techniques. The aim of this project is to further quantify the binding event (i.e. stoichiometry) and to conduct transmetallation studies via chromatographic technique (HPLC). This will provide insights into the structure of the aptamer – Gd3+ complex.
