An inventory investigation into fourth, fifth and sixth grade classroom perceptions and communication

The chief aim of this Inventory investigation into classroom perception and communication was to provide rapid, informative feedback to the teacher as to student perceptions and communication processes taking place in the classroom. With the premise that the returning of this information to the teacher would be contributing to the process of good communication within the classroom by providing teachers with quantitative data that was never before available. Hypotheses were posed relative to the difference between boy and girl communicative responses and grade differences~ In addition to the criterion measure, seven areas were examined as follows: other's expectations, school work, classroom perception, classroom participation, potential avenues for personal communication, trust perception, and self perception. Data were treated by using the chi-square test at the .05 level of significance. The data were also examined percentage wise. Results indicate that this type of Inventory was deemed useful by the classroom teachers and provided a valid instrument for determining empirically, differences in perceptions and male/female communication patterns for combined and for different grade levels.
